Composite Decking

What Is Composite Decking?

Composite decking is made from a combination of wood fibers and either polypropylene or polyethylene plastic, which results in a strong and resilient building material. In most cases, it is made through a co-extrusion process, combining wood fibers, sawdust, and plastic under high temperatures for maximum durability.

The finished boards are often patterned to mimic the grain look of a traditional wood deck, so your outdoor area has the classic look of wood, without any of the maintenance concerns.

What Are Benefits of a Composite Deck?

If you’re still trying to decide whether composite decking is the right choice for your backyard renovation project, consider the following benefits of choosing this material:

  • It’s a sustainable material: Eco-conscious homeowners will be happy to know that most of the raw materials used to make composite boards are recyclable. This makes it an environmentally friendly option for your project.
  • It’s a low-maintenance material: Unlike wood, which requires hands-on maintenance over the years, composite decking boards are a low-maintenance option. To remove dirt and debris, simply clean it with a garden hose and gentle brush a few times per year.
  • It’s a durable material: Compared to other materials, composite decks are designed to last as long as possible, and are resistant to damage from pests and moisture, so it won’t decay or rot away over time.
  • It’s a versatile material: Composite decking comes in a variety of different color and style options, so you can design a deck that perfectly fits your aesthetics.

Best Composite Decking Options

At Sunburst Construction, we pride ourselves on installing high-quality materials for our customers. As such, we offer two of the best composite decking options on the market: Trex Decking and TimberTech Decking.

Trex Decking

Trex Decking is primarily made from recycled plastic grocery bags, waste wood, and reclaimed pallet wrap, making it an especially eco-friendly building material. Unlike wood, it won’t splinter or rot over time and it can withstand our Northern Virginia weather extremes without fear of damage.

Available in 15 colors and tones, Trex decking is backed by a 25-year warranty for the ultimate peace of mind.

TimberTech Decking

Another composite option is TimberTech Decking, which has the look of natural wood in a much more durable package. TimberTech is also available in a range of different colors so there is no shortage of options available to you.

Traditional wood decks need extensive upkeep every 1 to 3 years and will need to be replaced every 10 to 15 years — a labor intensive and costly process.

We are a proud TimberTech AZEK Gold Registered Contractor, meaning we have met specific qualifications set in place by TimberTech. It also means we can offer a 5-year labor warranty on top of TimberTech’s composite decking warranty so your investment is protected.

Why Choose Sunburst Construction?

We understand that taking on an outdoor renovation project can be overwhelming. To help reduce stress and make your life easier during your project, we offer a streamlined process that allows us to work efficiently to help you create the updated backyard of your dreams.

We used Sunburst to tear down our old deck and build a new Trex deck. Communication was great right from the start and all the way through the project. Fred, Brandon and Mason were friendly, helpful and responsive to my questions. This is the second time I’ve used them and I would not hesitate to use them again. Thank you!
